Keystone
A young dwarf sets the first wards of a frontier settlement and finds the old stone line in the creek, and the hungry thing that has kept its side of the bargain for centuries.
In the winter of 2190, a young dwarf named Thorin Stoneshield is setting boundary stones around a clearing where thirty-odd settlers hope to survive their first winter. One morning, a stone is gone. The furrow it left runs down to the creek, and up the creek is a line of older stones, cut by dwarves centuries ago, and something that has kept its side of the bargain ever since.
Across fifty years, five chapters and one promise, Keystone follows a mason, a settlement and a very old, very hungry neighbor. It’s a quiet fantasy story about debts, fences and what it costs to keep your word.
A Briarwake side story from The Listening Dark. Adventure, grit and a little dark humor.
